ELIMINATING FD&C RED DYE No. 3
On January 15, 2025 the USDA FDA revoked the use of FD&C Red No. 3 required by law based on the Delaney Law: https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/changes-science-law-and-regulatory-authorities/part-iii-drugs-and-foods-under-1938-act-and-its-amendments Manufacturers who use FD&C Red No. 3 in food and ingested drugs will have until January 15, 2027 or January 18, 2028, respectively, to reformulate their products. Other countries have banned the use of FD&C Red No. 3. Foods, products, or mixtures imported to the U.S. must comply with U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

FD&C Red No. 3 is Erythrosine a synthetic dye derived from petroleum and is shown to cause cancer. In the 1980’s the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) revealed a link between high doses of FD&C Red No. 3 and the development of tumors in male rats, leading the FDA to ban its use in cosmetics in 1990, although it does not occur in humans as it does in rats. We encounter numerous toxins in our food, drinks, and the products we use on our skin is widespread in the United States.
Many, including myself, have realized the importance of managing our own health.
In 2006, I took a nutrition class One of the most valuable lessons I learned was to read labels. Since then, I become aware of the cancer-causing agents in our foods, drinks, and skin products. I refuse to purchase anything containing red dye or other toxins for myself or my family. Our skin is the largest organ our body, and it absorbs everything we apply to it.
Research indicates that synthetic dyes can also be detrimental to our health. They contain contaminants that may cause cancer.
Red No. 3 gives products the bright red color. It occurs in cereals, candies, cookies, baked goods, beverages and medications.
Artificial food dyes can cause hyperactivity and other behavioral issues in children.
Learn to read labels on the products you buy. Purchasing items without synthetic dyes can encourage companies to remove toxins from their products sooner than 2027 or 2028. Those dates are quite far off to wait for them to adjust their formulas.
